Non Destructive Testing

NON DESTRUCTIVE TESTING

Wire ropes deteriorate during operation and need inspection throughout their service life for safety of personnel and operations, economic and safe extension of rope life, and satisfying regulatory agency requirements.

We use the Wire rope tester INTROS which is designed for accurate inspection of ropes made from ferrous wires, and comprises basic unit and magnetic head

The INTROS is a dual-function instrument, i.e. it simultaneously detects Localized Flaws (LFs) and measures Loss of Metallic cross-sectional Area (LMA). LFs normally mean broken wires, which usually caused by metal fatigue, while LMA is typically caused by external and internal corrosion and abrasion.

The INTROS operates on the magnetic flux leakage (MFL) principle, and is power supplied with rechargeable batteries. The magnetic head contains powerful rare-earth magnets to saturate the rope. Measuring system contains Hall generator and/or coils. Grease, paint, dirt or plastic sealing material, inspection speed does not affect results of inspection. The instrument is ruggedly designed, specially protected according to IP65 requirements, and can be used even in explosive environment, at ambient temperature -10° to +50°C.

The instrument is used for inspection of ropes of Shiplifts, Mine-winders, Cranes, Elevators, Aerial cableways, Suspended bridges etc. It meets requirements of international standards like ASTM E1571, EN 12927, ISO 4309, IMCA SEL 023.

We are specialists in undertaking NDT of Shiplift Wire Ropes of any size and have a vast experience in this field. Customised reports are generated for analysis.
